RANDOM PRODUCT ENDORSEMENT
Caress has a new line of body washes called Exotic Oil Infusions. I tried the one posted above, Morrocan, and it is fabulous! The light scent is wonderful and it left my skin feeling really soft and refreshed. The texture of the product is so creamy, it could be used in place of shaving cream as well. The bottle is what initially grabbed my attention, so cute! They also have a Japanese scent which smells great too, I had a hard time deciding which one to buy. Pending they don't discontinue this product, I will be sticking with it. It's also a steal for around $4 a bottle. Now if I can only hide it from my daughter.....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY LITTLE GUY
Today is my son's 6th birthday HOORAY! He is the ONLY man in the world I would give all my money to. T-Man is a joy to have and I am thankful everyday that he came into my life. Happy birthday my precious angel *with your lil bad self lol*. Mommy loves you so much.

MY NEW TOY My baby hooked me up with a great gift for my birthday. It's the T-Mobile Sidekick ID. I'm in LOVE with this device, it makes texting so much easier. I haven't put it down since I got it. I have no technical-savvy whatsoever and was a little intimidated by it at first but once I got the hang of it, there's no stopping me. I wish I would've invested in this device a long time ago. I text an awful lot, on average about 4,000 texts a month (yeah I know, banoodles) and I was beginning to get hand cramps! My Sidekick takes away the pain and I no longer worry about developing arthritis in my hands once my Golden years approach. Hooray for me!Labels: Eccentric Diva, Random Musings

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! Today is my birthday and I am so thrilled to be getting older (sarcasm). I guess I should be thankful that I am still around to celebrate another year and besides, I look damn good for my age haha. The day was uneventful but I did spend the day with my baby *swoon* and that's the most important thing. I want to give a special shout out to all my fellow Cancerians who have already or will be celebrating a birthday soon.

JOY AND PAIN The Eccentric Diva took the plunge and got cornrow braids over the weekend. I really wanted to try something different and also give my own hair a break. Originally I wanted really long cornrows braided to the back but I decided to go with a "braided ponytail" as the stylist called it. After 2 torturous hours, the job was complete. I'm pretty sure that woman grabbed the hair out of my ass and braided that in with the cornrows too, she left no strand free. Although I felt like my worst enemy attached a vice grip to my head and turned the crank at will, the finished product was gorgeous. The first night was rough, I could barely lay on the pillow. It even hurt to raise my eyebrows. I had to get my Meagan Good on and draw "permanently surprised" eyebrows just to look halfway cheerful. The second day was not as bad as the first but it still was painful nonetheless. I am in day four and this crap still hurts. Now I'm getting little bumps in the back of my head. I must say that I am enjoying the extra sleep in the morning since I don't have to style my own hair. Would I do this again? FIVE RANDOM FACTS ABOUT ME
I got tagged by my beautiful sister in blogosphere Afrobella to post five things that me that I've never discussed on my blog. It took me a while to get around to this because I couldn't think of five things about me that anyone would care to know. I usually find it pretty easy to write about movies, music, and bullshit but it was quite a challenge for me to talk about myself. Here goes:
1. I am DEATHLY afraid of snakes, ladybugs, raccoons, and rats!
I can't even watch these creatures on tv. I will never own genuine snakeskin belts, shoes, or purses (besides it's tacky as hell). Raccoons are some of the most horrifying creatures on this Earth. One morning while leaving for work I saw two in my backyard and in two years I have REFUSED to park my car back there, I just leave it in the driveway. And don't get me started on mice, I once moved from an apartment because I saw one.
2. I don't take personal compliments well.
Every time someone compliments me on my personal appearance, I feel the need to offset it with something negative, don't ask me why but I'm trying to work on that. For example:
Complimenter: You are very pretty.
Me: Thank you, but you should have seen what I looked like before I put myself together.
If someone compliments me on my work or accomplishments, I take it very well but personal compliments always throw me off.
3. I have no desire to visit warm-climate, sandy beach vacation spots
The thought of sand between my toes makes my stomach queasy! My idea of a perfect vacation would be somewhere that has interesting architecture like Prague or Italy. Japan is my ultimate vacation spot, it's the place I want to visit the most before I die, Ibiza would be second choice.
4. I cannot STAND raw veggies
With the exception of the usual suspects that come in the average salad, I cannot stomach raw veggies. Yes I know, they are good for you blah, blah but I at least need to have them steamed to enjoy them. Things such as raw carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, greens peppers cannot be covered in enough ranch dressing for me to eat it, they will sit untouched.
5. I became a mother for the first time in my late teen years
I beat the odds by going to college and obtaining a degree not too long after my child was born. I also beat the odds that says most teen mothers will have a second child within two years of the first child. My kids are eleven years apart and the second child was was planned and thought about from start to finish. No abortions or miscarriages in between! I am not an advocate of teen motherhood but I will say that if it happens, it is not the end of the world and it should not deter a young woman from seeking a better life for herself and her child. It can be done, it's just much harder.

 Spike Lee: I Love You Like a Play Cousin
Spike Lee is my man! I have a great admiration of his films. His body of work is impressive, even if Hollywood doesn’t agree. Screw them, I love his work and look forward to seeing his next cinematic gem. I’d like to take this time to do a brief overview of my opinion of some of his films:
She’s Gotta Have It: This was a great film to me. I love that he filmed this entirely in black and white. When this film was released, many people viewed this film as sexist and were turned off by the fact that the main character had sexual relationships with several men. I felt the movie was pro-woman and the main character was a sexually liberated female who had needs and desires similar to many men.
School Daze: School Daze was a look into Black college life. At the time it was released, I didn’t know too many people who went to HBU’s or any colleges for that matter, so it opened my eyes to a whole new world. I also was not aware at the time that colorism and classism among Blacks was such a major issue. Loved this film too!
Do The Right Thing: Again, another eye opening experience. Being from the Midwest, I had no idea that there was such a great racial divide happening in New York. I’d always viewed NY as a liberal place where everyone just simply coexisted. This film led me to do more research on NY and learn more about those issues.
Jungle Fever: This film showed the possible outcome of the interracial dating experience. I had never experienced interracial dating prior to seeing this film, so I didn’t know much about the subject. I appreciated the way the film showed both all sides of the coin by showcasing friends, family, and co-workers reaction to the coupling.
Malcolm X: The Oscar committee owes Spike Lee a big ass apology for totally overlooking this film. I was so angry that this film was snubbed so badly by the Academy. From start to finish, the film is an epic on par with The Godfather as one of the greatest film ever. You can tell Spike was really passionate about this subject and really wanted to convey to the public how significant Malcolm X was.
Crooklyn: A beautiful, moving story of Black family love, pain, and survival. Spike did an excellent job with a very sensitive subject, children dealing with the death of a parent. This film was also a great memory lane trip of the 70’s.
Summer Of Sam: This movie did not do well at all at the box office. I feel this film is highly underrated. I have always been intrigued by the Son Of Sam murders and was pleased with Spike’s interpretation of the events surrounding the case. I think critics and audiences alike for two main reasons panned it: Reason 1- I don’t think critics appreciated a Black man recreating a story that featured a serial killer. Possibly because serial killings are not a big part of the Black experience. Most serial killers and victims are White people so maybe they felt that Spike could not do justice to the subject matter. Reason 2-Black movie patrons were probably so accustomed to one genre of film from Spike. This film was a sharp departure from his previous work.
Bamboozled: Now this is the first Spike film that I can honestly say I did not like. I’ve watched it twice and both times I came away with the feeling that Spike made this film out of anger. The entire film feels “bitter”. Also, it was so much like another great film, Putney Swope…that to me it had a “been there, done that” quality to it.
She Hate Me: This would be the second film of Spike’s that I did not enjoy, not only did I not enjoy it, I found it highly offensive. I could not figure out Spike’s agenda for this film. At first you have this whole whistle blowing, shaking up the system type of vibe, and then you flip it to a man being paid to impregnate lesbians. It perpetuated the “big Black buck” stereotype to the fullest IMO. I was not pleased with this film at all.
When The Levees Broke: A return to the greatness that is Spike Lee! This 4-part series was a mind-blowing and eye-opening look into the events surrounding Hurricane Katrina. It supplied me with knowledge about this tragedy that the media conveniently left out. I cried, laughed, and rejoiced while watching this documentary. Spike did a superb job and I hope he finally gets the recognition he so deserves. Labels: Eccentric Diva

 MY OWN PERSONAL KRYPTONITE: CookiesI LOVE cookies! Whether they are fresh-baked or store-bought, I can't live without them. I don't know what it is about cookies that make me shake like a junkie. Maybe it's some childhood memory that I have in the deepest corner of my mind that make me unable to say no to cookies. I don't know what it is, but whatever it is....I can't live without the damn things! I don't care if it's Oreo, chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, white chocolate Macadamia, lemon, wafers..... shit, all the packaging has to say is "Cookie" and I'm sold on it. Don't let it be Girl Scout season, the Scouts in my neighborhood know to hit me up first. Fresh baked chocolate chip cookies are my absolute favorite. The Pillsbury Dough Boy and I are on intimate terms. Hell I even eat the cookie dough unbaked..makes no darn difference to me. Couple warm cookies with ice cold milk....an absolute Utopian experience...no sex needed ( OK I'm exaggerating a bit y'all, but you get the point). What is your Kryptonite?Labels: Eccentric Diva

COOL 80's CHICK: Jodi Whatley 
Huge hoop earrings and hair down to "there" were her signatures. Jodi was the definition of 80's chic. Successfully merging music and fashion, Jodi was a force to be reckoned with. But don't dismiss Miss Watley as just another vapid 80's pop tart, Jodi wrote and arranged a lot of her own music. Her style was her own, she wore it and she wore it well. Many girls idolized and imitated Madonna's style at the time, my idol was Jodi. Did I forget to mention that the lady was fashion model fine as well? She had a great figure and killer bone structure! A former Soul Train dancer and singer with the R&B group Shalamar, Jodi stepped out on her own and took the world by storm and winning a Grammy in the process. Jodi left her mark on stage as well in 1996 playing Rizzo in the hit Broadway play Grease...the first time the role was ever played by an African American. Jodi has since created her own record label Avitone Records (you go girl!) and released a new CD in August 2006 titled "The Makeover". COOL 70's DUDE: Billy Dee Williams 
Sexy, suave, and sophisticated all begin with the letter "S'".....and they all describe Billy Dee to a "T". Billy Dee was the man you contacted when a movie role called for a sexy, suave, and sophisticated leading man. Along with his movie star looks he also had a voice that was smooth as silk. His signature moustache and wavy hair were his calling cards as well. I know many ladies swooned at the mere sight of this man. As a young girl, I was instantly thrown into a trance any time he appeared onscreen. Billy Dee played in many great films in the 1970's but his career began as far back as 1959! His most famous role to date is Lando Calrissian in Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back. The script writers even blessed him with one of the coolest names in Star Wars history IMO for that film role, I'm sure there were a lot of little boys named "Lando" around that time period haha. In the 80's Billy Dee did several commercials and printwork for Colt 45 Malt Liquor, making him one of the coolest cult figures due to the cheesiness of the spots. Billy Dee continues to work steadily in film and TV to this very day. HOW MUCH IS THAT DOGGIE IN THE WINDOW?
No one realizes how much I heart this doggie. I have every other material possession that my money can buy EXCEPT for this little creature right here. Once I have him, my circle of life will be complete. I have a spouse, a girl child and a boy child...all I need is this doggie to make life complete for me. He's all I want for Christmas this year. Look at that face...how can anyone resist it? I'm hoping the right person will read this post (hint, hint) to know how dead serious I am about getting this hot piece of doggie ass for Christmas. I already have a name for him..his name will be Jack, the Jack Russell Terrier (original right?) or Jackie if it's a girl. Beggars can't be choosy now can they? I want my dog to look as closely as possible to the dog picture above. No bootleg knock-off thrift-store puppy for me. As Yvonne Elliman sang in the 70's, If I can't have you, I don't want nobody else.

 RANDOM FEAR: THE OFFICE POTLUCK PARTYHow do I fear office potluck parties...let me count thee ways. This coming Friday, my nightmare will be a reality. Oy vey, this is something I always dread. There's nothing worse than folks trying to shove their ghastly concoctions down your throat. Co-workers using other co-workers as guinea pigs to test out their latest science experiments..um...recipes. I try to be nice by telling the person that I've already eaten or that I'm on a special diet but even that doesn't work. The cooks will sit around and watch me like a bird stalking prey to make sure I taste their gobbledy-goop. The thought of eating strange foods cooked by even stranger folks makes the Nicole Ritchie Diet regimen seem really feasible for me, and believe me...I LOVE food! Not to mention the camaraderie that goes along with the potluck luncheon is just too much for me. To quote the late Ms. Greta Garbo," I want to be left alone". Maybe if I didn't work with such a large group it wouldn't be so bad. Large work groups mean many different personalities, some I dig..and some I don't. But overall, I generally like the people I work with it but it's hard to really care about any of them because of the large group environment. IT'S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR!!  
My favorite season is Fall. Fall holds a special place in my heart for several reasons. First reason is the weather. Fall weather is perfect because the temperature is not too hot and not too cold. I love the way the leaves change colors and how beautiful they look laying on my front lawn. My second biggest reason is because Fall is the season to break out my boots. I LOVE boots! There is just something about getting a new pair that is almost orgasmic in nature for me. Taking those boots out of the box...zipping them up my leg....*fans myself*! I equate the feeling of wearing knee-high boots with the feeling of having a lover giving your calves a warm hug all day, it feels that good to me. I also wear ankle and calf boots but the knee-high ones are my favorites. I start shopping for my boots at the end of summer, so when the temperature drops, I'm ready. Boots are by far, my favorite shoes.

THE KANG OF R&B: BOBBY BROWN
 Bobby Brown was the man 50 grand back in the day. His influence is still felt today with artists such as Omarion, Usher, Chris Brown, and many other imposters. Bobby was the first artist to project that super-sexy, hyper-sexual, dancing machine image that is now a standard amongst R&B males. I remember being so heart-broken when he married Whitney! Whitney was pretty much on point when she said Bobby was the King of Rhythm and Blues (sort of), now poor Bobby is still the King of R&B, just now the R&B stands for reefer and blunts. It's really kind of sad to see the sideshow Bobby has become, his legacy could've been much greater. So today I felt like paying tribute to the Kang himself..Mr. Bobby Brown. FOR THE LOVE OF SKA: THE SPECIALS- A MESSAGE TO RUDY-1980The Eccentric Diva loves Ska music! Real ska, not No Doubt. The Specials were one of the best ska bands ever in my opinion. They were a multicultural group of guys from England. Not only were their songs cool, most of them had a social message. Other cool tracks to check out by The Specials are Racist Friend (1983), Free Nelson Mandela (1984), and Stereotype (1980).  RANDOM MUSING: DREAMGIRL
The other night I had a dream about someone who I have not seen or thought about since high school. The dream was crazy ridiculous involving pregnant men...the whole nine (don't ask, ha). Anyhow, the thing that baffled me more than the pregnant man idea was the fact that I was dreaming about someone who I haven't seen or thought about in over 17 years! This has happened to me before, and when it does, I usually will run into that person or hear some news about that person from someone else. This person was not even significant in my life. We knew each other in school and that was about it. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Should I consider a career in Psychic Readings? LOL

MOVIE REVIEWSAs stated in the first blog entry I will be adding film reviews to this blog spot. Some will be of new films but most will probably be older films. Some you may want to see after I review them and some you may just ask yourself "Is this woman out of her mind" and the answer is YES haha. If a movie is described as weird, wild, or gory....you best believe I wanna see it. Hollyweird bores me to tears with their happy endings, bogus love stories and car chases. I like to see life from a different point of view. My rating system will consist of "Soul Claps". 4 soul claps means that I loved the film and would highly recommend it. 1 or no soul clap means don't waste your fucking time or money.Labels: Eccentric Diva
