RANDOM PRODUCT ENDORSEMENT

I am loving this stuff so much I had to share, the company needs to pay me for this free endorsement lol. It's Oil Of Olay's In-Shower Body Lotion. You apply it to your skin after you wash with soap in the shower, then rinse. It smells great and leaves your skin really soft. I grabbed a bottle of this stuff relatively cheap thanks to the crackhead booster at my beauty shop. The crackhead swore by it and I took her word for it, maybe her customers give her compliments on her skin, hell I don't know. I know when I go back to my *hur did, I will be looking for sistagirl to get more of this.

RANDOM UGLY SHOE

Ah yes, the Jesus of Nazareth Meets Manhattan sandal. Originally this sandal was designed for the rugged terrain of a wilderness path. They are mostly worn by city dwellers and accompanied by thick wool socks. We all know that concrete is a bitch to navigate on, gotta protect those precious tootsies. This ugly shoe is usually paired up with the devil incarnate itself, the diabolical fanny pack. The fanny pack is hell bent on destroying the world, one bag at a time...you've been warned. Who's grand idea was it to create a SANDAL to wear for hiking anyway? Seems like having exposed feet would pose some kind of danger. SMH

BORROWED TIME AND MUSIC

A co-worker and I were having a musical discussion this morning. He was very surprised to discover that I am an old-school rock head and a lover of all music that's a little different...it's evident that I never gave him the link to my blog lol. I think he almost peed his pants when I told him I was a Frank Zappa fan. Not only did he give me the password to his Sirrus satellite account, he left his Ipod with me since he was leaving for the rest of the day. I promised to guard it with my life, plugged it in and took a listen to the 600+ tracks he downloaded on it. First of all, my ass has never TOUCHED an Ipod ever, I have an MP3 player but it's nothing fancy. The first song was Lenny Kravitz's "Dig In". The shit was so loud I swear it loosened the wax in my ears and I could not figure out how to adjust the volume. I have the patience level of an ant so I almost turned the damn thing off. I figured out how to turn it down and skipped through a couple of tracks...I see he's a big Jimmy Buffet fan...mmmm, yeah ok. Next on the list, a dance music medley that included the songs "Short Dick Man" and "Lick It".....rotflmao! I cannot imagine Mr. Button Down Shirt listening to this stuff while dropping it like it's hot...I'm side-eyeing his ass from now on. Next on the list, Outkast "I Like The Way You Move", yessir..I can get with this. I fast-forwarded past a sea of Ozzy Osbourne, Foo Fighter and various country music tracks to discover "Fantastic Voyage" by Lakeside but it was labeled as The Gap Band being the actual artist...someone doesn't know their music lol. After being in musical bliss for a few tracks I got ran over by "Everybody" from The Backstreet Boys...I'm clowning his ass for this one BOOOOOOO!. Right after that fiasco there is an excellent hip hop mix featuring DMX and Jay-Z. Right after the storm, he brings back the calm with "Il Cantro" by Pavarotti..great choice. Next up, "West End Girls" by the Pet Shop Boys...INDEED, he may not get clowned so hard afterall! Ruff Ryders Anthem huh...I'm cracking up imagining this dude get his swagger on and barking like DMX. Next up after Ruff Ryders Anthem, Barry Manilow's "I Write The Songs", oy vey! I can't clown him too hard on this choice because I like Barry too, but don't tell anyone. Next track, a live version of "Wonderwall" by Oasis *swoon*. Alice in Chain's "Heaven Beside You", I need to download this myself. This guy has very eclectic tastes with everyone from Michael Jackson to Frank Sinatra, I'm very impressed. His selections are very commercial for my tastes but he has something from damn near every musical genre and that's very cool. I'm very thankful that he was gracious enough to let me peek into his musical world. This Ipod thingy is not so bad after all..he may have a hard time getting it back from me. Now I'm seriously considering investing in one or something like it.

MOVIE REVIEW: Grindhouse 2007

Hey there folks! Since this was a double feature, I must do two reviews so bear with a sista lol.

First Film: Planet Terror (Story by Robert Rodriguez)
After leaving work, go-go dancer Cherry Darling (Rose McGowan) accepts a ride from her estranged ex-boyfriend Wray (Freddie Rodriguez). In route their truck is hijacked by bloodthirsty zombies who snatch off Cherry's leg before her Wray can fight them off. A hospitalized Cherry is rescued again kung fu fighting Wray but discovers that she does not have a leg to stand on (enter drumroll here) to run from the zombies that have taken over the hospital. Wray creates a makeshift leg for her and together they flee. They meet up with other survivors in the town and prepare to square off with the undead. Coming along for the ride is bisexual doctor Dakota Block (Marley Shelton), who is fleeing from running from her undead psycho hubby, a couple of sheriffs, J. T., the owner of a gross bar-b-que joint (Jeff Fahey), and a set of crazy ass Mexican baby-sitters. After Cherry breaks her new makeshift leg, Wray hooks an AK-47 to her stump and she becomes a one-woman killing machine, complete with Matrix-style moves and blows some zombie ass to pieces. Will the motley crew survive the attack of the undead or will they all be eaten alive? No more spoiler's from me y'all!

Second Film: Death Proof (Story by Quentin Tarantino)
Three young ladies get together for an evening of fun and drinks. They are celebrating Jungle Julia's *hee hee* (Sydney Poitier) birthday. While in the bar, they are being observed by Stuntman Mike (Kurt Russell), a Hollywood stuntman (duh) who has a taste for killing pretty girls in groups. Instead of a gun or a knife, his weapon of choice is a 1969 Dodge Charger which is virtually indestructible. The ladies leave the club and become Mike's latest road kill. Enter a new group of ladies whom Stuntman Mike has his eye on. Abernathy (Rosario Dawson) and her crew are celebrating the wrapping up of a film they were working on. Lanna (Monica Staggs) has her eye on buying a 1970 Dodge Challenger and asks the ladies to come along with her to check out an ad for a car she spotted in the paper. After viewing the vehicle, she convinces three ladies out of the group to help her coax the owner into letting her test-drive the vehicle but the real purpose is joyriding. Lanna is having a ball riding on the hood of the car until Stuntman Mike sees his marks and smashes his car into theirs over and over again. Will these ladies meet the same fate as the previous group or will they end Stuntman Mike's reign of terror? No more spoilers from me y'all!

What a rollercoaster ride!!! I had the pleasure of viewing this film in a theater in New York City, and let me tell you, NYC folks are wild and crazy! It was the most fun I had at the movies in quite a while, I did not even mind the talking, it felt right at home with the sheer madness of these films. I think my date got a little bored after the second movie though *sorry luv*...in all fairness, this movie does clock in at 3 hours long! I didn't even mind the old dude snoring in the seat behind us, I was a little worried about the item he had in his mouth though, it looked like a ping-pong ball or something...a bitch was not in the mood to administer CPR at 1am! The first film, Planet Terror was a slam-bang, in your face style gore fest. Rose McGowan is almost unrecognizable from her "Charmed" days.... further proof that plastic surgery is the devil but she looked cute for a chick with a machine gun leg. Freddy Rodriguez as her vertically challenged ass-kicking ex-boyfriend was the hotness!!! Bruce Willis' cameo as the Zombie Leader was totally unexpected and he was not billed in the credits as appearing in this film. The action was nonstop and there was no room for boredom. Enter the second film, Death Proof. Let me start by saying that Kurt Russell looks fantastic for his age and he did a great job as psycho killer Stuntman Mike. The first group of ladies led by Sidney Poitier's daughter, Sydney Poitier *tres orginal* were very dull and I truly could have cared less about their fate. The second set of ladies were more interesting but the amount of useless dialogue made the movie drag. When the action heated up, it was worth the wait. Those chicks were badass! Besides the two films, there were hilarious fake movie trailers thrown in between films that were spoofs of 70's Grindhouse films such as Ilsa The Shewolf and Don't Look In The Basement...great touch! One of the trailers even had UDO KIER in it..my man! The setup was supposed to make the viewer feel like they were revisiting a sleazy 70's movie theater all over again. This opus was an ode to the fanboy or fangirl who has a love and appreciation of 70's schlock films....I'm sure a lot of people did not "get it" because they didn't understand. I got the message loud and clear because I'm a 70's sleaze fanatic, as you can see by some of the shit I review on this blog. I had a kick-ass time viewing this film and I will be purchasing this when it is released. This is without a doubt not for the kiddies so keep them at home and rent Happy Feet for them or something. This is Jungle Julia, the Eccentric Diva, signing off for now lol.

MOVIE REVIEW: One Week 2000

Varon Thomas (Kenny Young) is on top of the world. He will soon marry his long-time love Kiya(Saadiqa Muhammad)and may be in the running to receive a prized promotion at work. His world is forever changed when he is notified by a public health center that he is on the "partner notification" list for potentially carrying HIV. A former lover has contracted the disease and has possibly passed it along to him. Not only is he on the list, but his best friend and roommate Tyco (Eric Lane) is on the list as well. Complicating the matters is a another former lover keeps showing up on Varon's doorstep at any given moment. Varon and Tyco go on a quest to find out exactly who has put them on the partner notification list. In the meantime, Varon's world continues to spiral out of control while an unsuspecting Kiya continues with wedding plans. Will Varon get the runaway bride treatment after Kiya finds out he has "The Package" or will the wedding go on as planned? No more spoilers from me y'all.

Shot on a shoestring budget around the Windy City...I thought this movie was great. A perfect example of an independent Black film done correctly, regardless of the small budget. Yes, it's full of plot holes but I've watched big budget movies that were full of holes so I won't hold it against this film. I think this film would work well as a PSA regarding HIV testing on college campuses, it may be a bit too mature for high school audiences. The acting was good, not Academy Award level but decent enough to pull off the message they were trying to convey. There are also a few funny moments thrown in here and there. Originally I caught this film on B.lack E.mbarrassment T.elevision and I never saw it again and decided to rent it. It was great the second time around. This film features strong language, a lil bit of violence, and a great message. I would suggest if you have teenagers at home, you watch this film with them.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MINI ECCENTRIC DIVA!!

On this day 17 years ago, I was basking in the glow of new motherhood. The baby girl I held in my arms was the most beautiful child I had ever seen. She is still the most beautiful girl in the world to me. Not only is she beautiful, she's strong, fiercely independent, and has a great sense of humor. I could not ask for a more perfect daughter. She is approaching adulthood and I get weepy thinking about her going off to college soon but I know I must let her fly *sniff, sniff*. She would die if she knew I posted her pic on the web like this but oh well, she'll live lol. Happy birthday, TJH.. Mini Eccentric Diva! Mommy loves you so much!
