RIP BRAD DELP
Rock music is what's up, especially old school rock. Live rock shows are my new thing now, I try to catch them whenever I can. I can bang my head with the best of them. Brad Delp was the lead singer of the 70's rock group Boston. The group had the best White boy afros ever lol! Boston's well-known hits include "More Than a Feeling" and "Peace of Mind". Apparently he died of natural causes and no foul play was suspected. Mr. Delp was 55 years old. He died with little or no fanfare in my opinion so I decided to pay my respects to him. Below I am posting the video for the song "More Than a Feeling"...this is my cut! Rock on in the afterlife Mr. Delp!
UPDATE:It is now known that Mr. Delp died as a result of an apparent suicide of carbon monoxide poisioning.

THE GODFATHER OF SOUL HAS BEEN CALLED HOME James Brown may not have been the most handsome or articulate man in the world but NO ONE with the exception of Otis Redding, could match his pure raw emotion and energy. Just look at old footage and watch his footwork, remarkable! I've never seen anyone move as fast as that man could, even in his golden years he was still a hard act to follow. The raw funk his music exuded was amazing. They called it funk for a reason, when you hear it your face instantly frowns up like you smell something "funky". That is always my reaction when I hear "Get Up Off That Thang", "The Payback", "The Funky Drummer", and many of his other classics. The media is a trip I swear. Upon the announcement of his death, the first thing they brought up was "drug user" and "prison time"and showed footage of his arrests and mugshots. Yes, I know James was no saint but are any of us? I'd like to remember the music immediately after his passing, not the misdeeds. James went out the way I hope to, he rode it until the wheels fell off. Rest in peace Godfather of Soul, this eccentric diva will certainly miss you. Labels: Celebrity Deaths

RIP GERALD LEVERTWords cannot express how saddened I am at the passing of Gerald Levert. His voice was amazing and there will never be another like him. Right now I'm still in a state of disbelief. The man was only 40 years old. This is my all-time favorite song by Gerald, back when he was a part of the group Levert. Rest in peace G-Bear. Labels: Celebrity Deaths

RIP THE "Original" ECCENTRIC DIVA: Tamara Dobson
I was very sad to learn last night that one of the most beautiful Black women in movie history IMO, Tamara Dobson had passed away. I featured her as my first Cool 70's Chick. Even though Tamara did not make many films, she's still a legend in my eyes. Tamara died due to complications from pneumonia and multiple sclerosis. Here is my original post on Tamara. Rest in peace sista.

A TRIBUTE TO WILLIE NINJAOne of the true pioneers in the art of Voguing passed away recently, Mr. Willie Ninja. I loved watching him perform, he was as flexible as a pretzel! I decided to post my favorite music video that featured him, Queen Latifah's Come Into My House. Queen was one of the first artists to feature voguing in a music video, most people credit Madonna (yuck) as being first but that's simply not true. Madonna's video just reached a wider audience. If you are not familiar with Mr. Ninja's work, you can see older footage of him in the documentary film Paris is Burning and in the more recent film How Do I Look which can be purchased at www.HowDoILooknyc.org. Both are truly great films. Rest in peace Willie Ninja, a true innovator.
